9-16-00 -- Let's pick on the Handicapped While driving by myself to the emergency entrance of Mountainside Hospital, the closest parking spot (including their lot) was at least a block away. There are "No Parking" signs on the street near the emergency entrance. Since I was in excruciating pain, could not walk and had to use crutches, I looked for the closest spot to the emergency entrance. I parked 10ft. in front of the sign that said no parking here to the corner. That meant there was still 40 ft. between the front of my car and the stop sign. I didn't see that as causing a problem for anybody. Officer Tom Hannigan saw my car had handicapped license plates, the car wasn't causing any problem where it was parked, it was near the emergency entrance of the hospital, and he just had to give me a parking ticket. I'm sure his parents would be proud. What ever happened to the phrase "To Protect and Serve?". Somehow I don't think it means to protect that 50ft. of ground in front of a stop sign and to serve tickets to the handicapped!!! It must be wonderful that the township of Glen Ridge doesn't have any crime whatsoever, and is paying officers to give out unnecessary parking tickets, when that officer could serve a more useful purpose like reporting suspicious persons or catching people that are committing or have committed crimes. I think it is obvious that this person doesn't have any compassion for the handicapped, and I am sure that if another car parked in the same space and had a police shield in the window, it wouldn't have gotten a ticket !!! Shame on You !!! |
