DASs REMOTE DATA BACKUP SERVICE
Problems with Tape Backup: ●
Problems with Tape Backup Drives: ○
The cost of a reliable tape drive starts at $725, plus
labor for installation and testing.
○ Tape drives are
mechanical devices subject to failure from wear and dust.
○
The tape heads are especially sensitive to wear in dusty environments. ●
Problems with Tapes: ○
Tapes cost nearly $60 each, so a minimum set of eight tapes costs
nearly $480. ○
Depending upon the level of dust in your environment, the
tapes can be expected to wear out within one to two years, requiring a
new set of tapes for approximately $480. ● The
Problem of Safely Storing Tapes: ○
The tapes need to be stored far away from the file server. In the
event of a fire, theft, or other disaster tapes stored near the file
server will also be destroyed or lost.
○ Standard safes and
"fireproof" boxes are designed to protect paper. Tapes stored in such
boxes will melt in a fire. ● The
People Problem: ○
Someone has to be responsible for checking the backup status
every morning and then changing the tapes. And...
○
Another person must take over when the first person is on vacation or
out sick. ○
People often fail to change the tapes.
○
People very often fail to check whether the backup actually
worked. DASs Remote Backup Service eliminates all of the above problems. No
expensive tape drives or expensive tapes are needed. Your data is backed up,
compressed, securely encrypted and transmitted to our backup server over your
DSL or Cable Internet connection. Every workday, we check that your backup has
been done. If there is a problem, we can remotely access your server to
investigate, often eliminating the need for a service call. This service is
available for as little as $2 per day (unusually high data volume may cost
more), plus a setup fee that costs much less than a set of tapes. Please note that, as with tape backup, the cost of repairing
your server and/or restoring your data is not included. Some servers may
not qualify, or may require upgrading at additional cost. High speed Internet
access is required. |
