Comments:
Home to the combined bobsled, luge and skeleton track-the only one east of the Rockies- as well as 50 km of groomed cross-country ski trails and a biathlon shooting range, the Olympic Sports Complex is a study in extremes. Athletes in the fastest of winter sports compete near Nordic skiers pacing themselves to outlast the pack.
These are thrilling sports to watch, but they're even more fun to experience.
Olympic Jumping Complex:  Does any sport try so hard to defy the force of gravity as ski jumping? At the Olympic Jumping Complex, you'll see up close what World Cup athletes will do to ignore, for as long as possible, that downward pull.
Lake Placid Figure Skating:  The Olympic Center runs a variety of programs for figure skaters training for regional, national and international competitions.
Lake Placid Bobsled Experience:  You'll feel the rumble of the sled's blades passing over the track's iced surface. You'll slide through one turn, bank high on the next one and pick up speed on the straightaway. You'll go faster than you're allowed to drive a car through town. Then you'll get to the bottom and want to do it again.
Lake Placid Skeleton Experience:  At the Olympic Sports Complex, you'll have the chance to try the sport of Skeleton. This is your childhood sled on overdrive. Thirty miles per hour never seemed as fast as when you are laying on your stomach rocketing down an icy chute.
Be a Biathlete:  It began, they say, more than a century ago as a training exercise for Norwegian soldiers, which goes a long way toward explaining how cross-country skiing and riflery met. The result is the biathlon, the only sport that involves ski wax and bullets. And this is one of the few places you can learn about it and give it a shot. Take an hour-long freestyle skiing lesson with our experienced instructors and then head out to the range and, under careful supervision, take aim at understanding this unique sport.
Public Ice Skating:  Two of our four rinks, one Indoor s, one out, both with a direct link to Olympic glory, and both here for you to enjoy. Please check the schedule for availability.
Lake Placid Loppet Course:  The Loppet and Kort-Loppet run on a slightly modified version of the 50km course constructed for the 1980 Winter Olympics making it one of the most challenging citizen races in the world. Skiers should consider carefully whether to enter the 25km or 50km event.
